Tina’s Color in Winter

Dear Laura,

I have seen the tropical plant, croton, you mentioned in your letter, but only indoors. Our weather dips into the 30s during winter, and we even had snow recently, which is quite rare for us. So, unfortunately, these plants wouldn’t survive outside here.

As I was reflecting on your painting, I noticed my camellia blooming in a brilliant red, much like the colors in your artwork. It blooms from January through March. We planted it for Aidan so it would bloom around his birthday. You’d love the vibrant color of this plant in the midst of winter.  I began sketching the flowers, buds, and leaves and soon realized I needed a bold art material to express the idea. I pulled out my acrylic paints, which I rarely use, and gave it a try. While my painting skills are a bit rusty, I think it turned out alright. The circles represent the cyclical nature of the seasons. While you may be in a season of winter for various personal reasons beyond simply the temperature outside, don’t forget to hold onto the hope that summer is coming. Warmer weather will be here before you know it.

On that note, you get to complete the last page of this book.  It’s been four years in the making!  I have really enjoyed creating this with you and look forward to our next collaboration.

Hugs,

Tina
