Laura’s Tropical Leaves
Dear Tina,
I loved learning about the Pin Oak Tree. I’d never heard of or seen one before. What a beautiful form this tree has. It was interesting to think about how different our landscapes are. We are now in the bleak winter with barely any leaves on our trees. It’s so sad to me but allows me to see things in the landscape that I hadn't seen before
Your painting of the colorful leaves got me thinking of the vibrant tropical plants I’ve seen on my trips to the Caribbean. One of the most colorful plants I saw was the Croton. These plants can only be grown indoors here in New England but I wondered if they grew in your area?
I did some sketching of the leaves and created an invented floral leaf painting. Tropical leaves evoke a sense of warmth, adventure, and paradise to me. They transport me back to the islands that I love so much with their lush landscape and serene beaches. It’s the escapist quality of the islands that resonates so much with me. I seek beauty, relaxation, a warmer climate, and a connection to the natural world since I find myself going outside less and less during our colder months.
Looking forward to spring….
Love ya!
