Book Exchange: Tina’s Small Forest

Dear Laura,

I walked over to a small forested area in my neighborhood to explore and observe what lives there.  I am curious about seeking inspiration from the mundane around us.  The type of small wild spaces in between the development of houses and roads.  Now that I am looking, I see them often as I am driving around my suburbs.  This small forest was packed with interesting things.  I caught a picture of the sun shining through the trees and instantly thought of you and your latest book entry.   I liked what you said about the sun being a sign of hope.  I think of something like that every morning.  That each new day is a fresh start and the sun feeds us all on this planet to keep moving forward. This graphite and watercolor painting is meant to express this very thought.

I apologize for this very lengthy turnaround for my response in this book.  Teaching had me consumed this spring, and then I needed a little creative break. Finally, I have time in my studio to think and create.  I relish the unplanned days of summer!

I hope you enjoy the sunshine and slow time of summer too.
