Nurture Your Nature: A Wild Love for the World

I have been craving some "soulful" listening while I am painting and came across this interview Krista Tippett shared from On Being with Joanna Macy, a philosopher of Ecology. I have never known or heard of this as a profession and I loved the idea of it. I was reminded of all the research I did on Ecology while in grad school. I was overwhelmed by all the conflicting information (and still am). I may not be able to retain or recite all the ever changing "facts & figures," but I can trust what I intuitively know in my heart.

"You become what you love."

My heart believes we can all do a little better loving and caring for both our planet and each other. Our world is SO alive, vibrant and rich as Macy discusses. We have so much to appreciate: seeds, soil, sunlight and water to grow our food, lakes, rivers, streams and beautiful oceans to play in and admire. Not to mention the flowers! :) I wonder how often people think about how intertwined we are with everything on our planet.

"There is a song that wants to sing itself through us and we just have to be available. Maybe the song that is to be sung trough us is the most beautiful requiem for an irreplaceable planet or maybe it's a song of joyous rebirth as we create a new culture that doesn't destroy its world."

~Maria Rainer Rilke

I appreciated Krista and Joanna discussing the "intuition of the blood and bones of our younger generation". Joanna said that they are able to look at hard things like how we abuse our world, and the corruption and impoliteness we see within our culture. She said they just smile and say, "what do you expect" and then go out and do what needs to be done to correct it. This thought lit me up!

We can only lead by example, right? Complaining doesn't create change.

"There is absolutely no excuse for our making our passionate love for our world dependent on what we think of its degree of health~whether we think it will go on forever. Those are just thoughts anyway..."

"This moment you are alive, so you can just dial up the magic of that at anytime."

~Joanna Macy

I found it intriguing that by following her curiosity Joanna Macy had the experience of working with the CIA. She traveled to Tibet and learned from the Dali Lama's peaceful heart. Joanna also translates Rainer Maria Rilke's poetry which I know you will love. It makes you feel like you are being "dipped in the beauty and magic of the world" like she describes. SO much wisdom to hold onto and ponder...
