Book Exchange: Tulips (Laura)

Dear Tina,

What a fantastic encounter you had with the moth! My garden is definitely coming to life and I’m welcoming EVERY moment. Every day I go out to see what’s in bloom. Seeing the explosion of color and progression of flowers is making my heart SMILE SO BIG!

First, the crocus who amazes me with how it can sustain the harsh fluctuations in temperature, then the daffodils who scream JOY with their happy faces, and most recently my beloved tulips. My heart is full.

I chose to paint the orange tulips because they were as big as my hand when they opened which made me think of your giant moth.

This poem by Mary Oliver mimics how I feel when then the flowers and sunshine reemerge from the long, cold winter. Looking forward to all the renewal that spring brings.

Love ya!

Why I Wake Early

Hello, sun in my face.

Hello, you who make the morning

and spread it over the fields

and into the faces of the tulips

and the nodding morning glories,

and into the windows of, even, the

miserable and crotchety–

best preacher that ever was,

dear star, that just happens

to be where you are in the universe

to keep us from ever-darkness,

to ease us with warm touching,

to hold us in the great hands of light–

good morning, good morning, good morning.

Watch, now, how I start the day

in happiness, in kindness.
