Inspiration: American Visionary Museum

Dear Friends,

As we mentioned in our previous letter, we have been reviewing what is working and not working on our blog.  We are changing our "Mindfulness" category which we typically post mid-month to a much wider category called "Inspiration". This way we can still write about our mindfulness practices but also include books we are reading, travel, or whatever else is inspiring our creative practices.

This month we have a short video to share with some of the most interesting artworks we saw at the American Visionary Museum in Baltimore, Maryland.  This museum is for "self-taught" artists. Here is how they define Visionary Art from their mission statement:"Visionary art as defined for the purposes of the American Visionary Art Museum refers to art produced by self-taught individuals, usually without formal training, whose works arise from an innate personal vision that revels foremost in the creative act itself."

In short, visionary art begins by listening to the inner voices of the soul, and often may not even be thought of as 'art' by its creator.

We loved this description and believe that we all have these inner creative "whispers". It's only up to us to have the courage to follow that and see where it leads. We think you will enjoy reading more about this fascinating collection HERE. One thing for sure is that we have never seen art like this before. It was quirky and absolutely genuine to the creator. Humor was infused in most of the work.  We saw a few sculptures made out of the marshmallow Peeps.  And then a few more out of toast.  Ha!Seeing the positive human spirit so strongly in the work was incredible. We would definitely go back.  Enjoy our video which gives you a glimpse of what this museum is about.  Let us know what your favorite part is in the comments below.  Thanks for watching!https://youtu.be/kAoQiAzKYWw
