Do you need a break from technology?
Hello Sweet T,How are you? It was such a pleasure visiting you in Charleston. We got so much done in such a short time didn't we? I love our new website more and more each day. Thank you for sharing all the different website headers we have had throughout our time on the internet~so cool! Looking at our first handmade banner made me realize how far we have come with technology. Things have changed so much in such a short amount of time, haven't they? It made me think about the effect technology currently has on my life. I can't imagine my life without it yet overwhelms me at the same time.I was listening to Krista Tippett's interview with Sherry Turkle, Alive Enough? Reflecting on technology. It would be a great listen for you while in your studio or pulling weeds in your garden. She beautifully discusses how technology is shaping us. This would make for such an interesting discussion with people of all ages and backgrounds. We all seem to be in very different places in our learning and understanding of this fast paced language.https://soundcloud.com/onbeing/sherry-turkle-on-alive-enoughI appreciated how Sherry offers thoughtful considerations and usable ideas for finding balance with always being "on" with technology and finding time for solitude. It seems like we can't escape it in our culture if we want to be relatable to our children and the world around us, yet we can create boundaries around it.She inspired me to ask the question,
Do you live deliberately?
This question is very timely as I find myself trying to balance the technical side what I am learning in B-School with painting, writing and reflection. Sometimes I get too focused on one thing and need to readjust and create time for the other knowing both are important.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately. I did not wish to live what was not life. Living is so dear."
~Henry David Thoreau
Right now my soul craves studio time, long walks in the woods and time noticing and sketching in my garden. I will update you about B-School but for now I wanted to show you that I am making some progress on my new website. Still tons of glitches and things to learn but I am glad you made me publish it before I left Charleston, even though the perfectionist in me resisted. Progress, not perfection, right? Heading out for a walk to clear my head and get back in check after a busy weekend with the most delightful guests. Later Alligator...
