Creating a Purpose Driven Art Business

Hello Sweet Friends,

How are you? I have been in a magical stage of nurturing and transcendence since joining Marie Forleo's B-School. My mind is overflowing with ideas like a river after a long winter. The course work in B-School is both innovative and creative. It is making me pause, take stock of where I am and helping me build a solid foundation for where I want to go with my collaborative work with Tina and my own art business. Marie designed this course for anyone wanting to create and grow a purpose driven business~a business created beyond personal gain, a business that is built to make a difference in the world.

"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept

the one

that is waiting for us."

~Joseph Campbell

This is what I have always strived to do but I didn't know how to do it. B-School is giving me a road map for the business side of things yet allows me to stay true to my highest values: love, connection, integrity, self-discovery, positivity, gratitude, creativity, compassion and trust in something greater than myself guiding me. I am energized and working harder than ever. I feel in flow because for the most part it doesn't feel like work.

So often *professional artists do not see themselves as entrepreneurs, but you have to if you want to be successful in this profession. There are skills and creativity that come with entrepreneurship and being able to share them helps communicate your ideas, which is what art is all about, right? Art to me is more than just a pretty picture, it is about ideas and how they are expressed. Artists often find it hard to sell their work like a commodity because it can be so personal. Selling a passionate idea is so wildly different then selling a product and I have struggled with this myself. I now appreciate how beautiful the exchange can be when you are professional and know you are doing your best to contribute to someone's well being or bring joy to their life.

"I don't believe people are looking for the meaning of life as much as they are looking for the experience of being alive."

~Joseph Campbell

The ideas behind my work has evolved over the years but my intention, integrity and passion have never wavered. I feel like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz when Glinda says to her, "You always had the power." I will always strive to learn, grow, reflect and share the lessons I am learning along the way.

"Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls."

~Joseph Campbell

As Tina mentioned in her last letter, we are creating a new website for our collaborative work. I cannot wait to share our ideas with you. I will be doing the same for my own artwork and letting go of the website I have been waiting over a year to have completed (learning curve, but we are moving on). I am starting from scratch to ensure that is easy to navigate and will express the greater vision I have for my work. I am trusting that all of this work is leading me where I am meant to go. I greatly appreciate you sharing in this journey. Until then...

Cheery Smiles your way!
