A little glimmer of goodness…

YOU are "OFFICIALLY" invited! click to enlarge

A jolly hello to you my sweet friends!

I feel like I have oodles and oodles of goodness to share with you but have been preoccupied getting ready for my Holiday OPEN STUDIO THIS Friday night & Saturday. I don’t know how it crept up on me so quickly as there are still TONS of things to do but I thought I would take a breath and share some of the fun things I have been working on…

my working table as of lately (Laura)

These ornaments were a blast to make alhough they have taken me WAY longer than I could ever have imagined! They have a wooden base which I gessoed an added rich layers of paint.  Some of them are layered with vintage book pages, sealed, then glazed and painted on top of so look closely. I hand stamped words on many of them using my vintage letter stamps. Here are a few of my favorites…

I decided to mount some of them on wood and did a series of fun backgrounds using some of the same mixed media techniques. They are all completely unique and special. Each one is sealed, ready to hang and would love a good home. They look really cute on the wall, placed on a bookshelf, little nook or could be given to someone special. As cheesy as it sounds I have put a little piece of my heart in each one.

Don't these look cute on these little easels?

I have also been staging a corner of my studio completely dedicated to L2T work which I am quite proud of and can’t wait to photograph and share. Millie and I were working away late last night and I finished the framing and packaging of some of our NEW, never before seen work and hung the first in the series of our TAOS project! You will be the first to see this labor of love so hope you can make it to the studio. More to come…YIPPEE!

Hot off the presses!

Laura packaging prints on a sunny afternoon...

Hello dear friends~

Do you remember the great “debate” I had several weeks ago regarding prints or originals? Well after much thought and research I decided to take the plunge and make the investment in prints. Often what people don’t realize is the time and effort that goes into making a quality giclee print. I certainly didn’t so I thought I would share my experience with you. Since I am not a commercial photographer I chose to have my work professionally photographed (at least for the large pieces-smaller work can be scanned). This is a little bit of an investment but SO worth it! I then worked on having the image color corrected to match the colors to the original work. This took some time as I tend to be a little “picky pants” about my colors. Luckily for me I had the help of the  ever patient and fabulous Robert Wilkinson whom I know from ACGOW. “Wilkie” as he is most well known not only provides AMAZING print services he is an innovative photographer. I was lucky enough to see some of his new work while at his studio and cannot wait until he has it ready for his upcoming show in January.

I am BEYOND thrilled with the results of these prints and cannot wait to share them with you! They are printed on luxurious heavy 100% rag fine art paper (so divine for a paper snob like me) using the highest quality inks available, meaning the color will last provided they are not exposed to direct sunlight over time. It was hard choosing which paintings to have printed but I narrowed it down to 9 of my favorites and had two of each printed. I am a REALLY excited (and a little nervous) to see how they are received after investing so much time and effort into creating them (they still feel a little tender to me). If they do well I will put some in my Etsy shop but until then they will be available for sale only at The Artists’ Cooperative of Westerly as well as my Holiday Open Studio, Friday December 10th 5:30-9pm & Saturday, December 11th 10am-4:00pm. Hope to see you there!

Cheery Smiles,

Laura
