1 More Day…

Laura's backyard

…until Tina arrives in CT and we can hardly stand the wait! We have been talking about how some things in our creative life are better served when we are together. Putting the finishing touches on our Etsy shop is one of them. For those of you who don’t know what Etsy is, it is an online shop for all things handmade. Two of Laura’s favorite shops are her friend Michelle Dyson’s fun and funky fiber work and  Lisa Occhipinti’s mixed media work (Lisa also has a beautifully written BLOG~very inspiring!). We decided to open a shop to share what we are creating (and mama have we been creating!) as well as a way to support our work together. It is our hope that the work we sell on our Etsy site we will allow us to save enough money to travel to each other at least once every season. Although we do work well when we are apart we are curious as to what kind of MAGIC we could create if we are together more often.

Our time together feeds both our individual art practices as well as our collaborative work and friendship. We would like to share how this translates into our work. It will also allow us funding for future residencies, provide materials and shipping of our work as well as create classes & workshops for our communities.  What you can expect to find when the shop opens is original collaborative artwork, new postcard size art with a creative spin on our first correspondence and drawing exchange, as well as our individual artwork. During Tina’s stay we will be fine tuning our fun packaging, descriptions, banner, and hopefully creating new work to WOW you with. Who knows, there just might be an extra special treat for one of YOU lovely readers so stay tuned! We would love to hear what your favorite Etsy sites are and why you are drawn to them. Do you have any ideas for creative shipping? What kind of a package would you like to receive? We would love it if you shared in the comments below so others may benefit from your experience. Thanks!

Working Table

Tina's Working Table

Tina’s Working Table Notes:  I am holding this new invention I completed (well almost).  I came up with a method to contain epoxy resin in a circle.  It will go in the square piece behind it.  It was a short studio day, but productive.  Nothing like a small window of time to work in a day to really get things done!

L2T Spring Fling artful display

Laura’s Working Table Notes: Today I went and did my first voice over for a video highlighting the Spring Fling! I will share it with you once it is complete. SO FUN! In the meantime here is a sneak peak of the display I created of L2T work for the event, complete with our first ever prints which we will soon have for sale on Etsy!

Working Table

Laura's Working Table

Laura’s Working Table notes:

I received a lovely package from Tina with the paintings I started which she collaged with drawings. She also sent along these wonderful wooden boxes for me to cover, along with maps and a few prints of our work. (We are testing out prints for our soon to be open Etsy shop). Today I worked on covering the boxes, preparing them for the artwork which will be mounted on them. It took a lot longer than you may imagine, as I was meticulous at making sure they were perfect and without any bubbles. I love the colors of the maps and how the images look juxtaposed on top of them. What you are seeing are the back of the boxes. They look like little shadow boxes. You can look forward to seeing them finished at the Open Studio in two weeks as well as at our soon to be Etsy shop opening soon-SO PSYCHED!

Tina's Working Table 4-13

Tina’s Working Table Notes:

Since moving my studio to my garage as a temporary spot, I have enjoyed the natural light, fresh air, and sounds of nature in my neighborhood.  It is a very different feel than my current studio in an industrial area.   A lot of work is coming together this month, which is good to feel finally.  The small pieces of art I have been struggling with are finally getting completed, after reinventing them three times, and I actually like them.  The picture on the right is a sneak peek at these which I will be posting on my website soon.

Art Exchange Collaboration

Dear Friends,

Laura and I have been exchanging small pieces of art through the mail. She adds some paint and I add some collage/drawing. We gave three of these away on February 14th for the launch of this newly designed blog.   We have created FIVE more to complete this series.  Laura will be doing the final touches on these pieces and have them available to see and purchase at her OPEN STUDIO event April 30-May 1 in Connecticut.  For those of you not able to attend her open studio event, we have another plan (we always have lots of plans!)….

We will  be launching an Etsy shop in May, so look forward to seeing more posts on our blog about the work we will have available to you. It will be a great place for you to view our collaborative art as well as support what we do through a thoughtful purchase.

We are thrilled to be able to share our work and process here with you on this blog.  We appreciate all the comments and thoughts sent our way.  It is further evidence that a cultural shift is happening of working collaboratively rather than competitively in the arts and life.  The visual arts are typically a solitary exercise (compared to theater, dance, or music that collaboration is essential) so we feel what we are traveling on new (and exciting) territory.  We are glad you are here traveling along with us as our work develops and expands to a larger audience.

Tina
