Studio Visits
…a semi-annual
studio visit
Tina, living in Charleston South Carolina and Laura, living in Groton Connecticut have been visiting each others studios two times a year since 2006. In 2009 the artists set the intention of creating together on these visits. This work marked a departure of all previous work together in that the artists sat side-by-side and negotiated every aesthetic decision, material, composition, imagery, method, color, as well as their own individual artistic styles.
The notes below follow our progress in the year 2009-2010.
October 2-6, 2009 in Charleston South Carolina
Laura and Tina engaged in their first studio collaboration. Although they have been creating art together through the mail, they have not been in the same geographical location creating art collaboratively until now. This was the first Studio Collaboration which will be an ongoing occurance for their art practice together. This type of work together required a challenging thought process of quick decisions, compromises, organized time management, innovation, and improvisation mixed in with good food, drinks, and laughs.

We decided on twelve pieces of art 6"x6" each. Thoughts of bridging the gap between our two studios lead to gluing South Carolina maps on one side and Connecticut maps on the other. In between are deep ocean maps.
