Hello delightful ones!
WOWZA have I had a busy week! The Hartford Open Studios was FANTABULOSO! I had a truly wonderful experience for my first time doing the show! Joy and I made a great team. She has an amazing sense of organization and we managed to fit all of our artwork, display pieces AND tables in one car! It was great having someone to travel with and share the days events.
I have to admit last week when I first saw the hallway where my work was to be displayed my stomach kind of sank. It was REALLY DARK! Joy & I couldn’t find an outlet anywhere in our hallway and I became consumed with how I was going to remedy the problem, as I know how important good lighting is to showing artwork.
We managed to do wonders with a few extension cords, can lighting and twinkle lights! Although still not the best lighting ever, it made a HUGE difference. I was amazed at how people were able to transform these hallways into works of art. Many went all out bringing in huge ladders and hanging their lights from the ceiling and then intricately making the cords “disappear”. I admired all of their hard work.
I met some truly kind-spirited, lovely people including Kerry Lucier Jr. owner of Aruna Chocolates~THE BEST raw, organic chocolate I have ever tasted, Sarah Paolocci, illustrator extraordinaire, Jamierose DiScipio a fabulous potter AND painter and my “hallway buddies” Diane M (forgot how to spell Diane’s last name, will post soon) and Geoffrey Houghton of SteamFolkArt . Our little spot on the 2nd floor became known as the “HAPPY CORNER” not only because of the bold use of color in our work, but because that was how we felt. It truly was a HAPPY day!
Filled with gratitude….laura
p.s. Today I will be setting up my table at the Mystic Arts Center for their Artisan Gift Salon which will be on display for the month of December (another first for me!) You can also see my work in the main gallery along with many other fabulous artists. SO MUCH GOODNESS!!!
