I really enjoyed reading your last letter. It was fun to see your journal and read your ideas about beauty. I agree with what you wrote about there often being negative connotations about women’s attitudes towards beauty. I think this is why I appreciate the Dove Beauty Project so much. The video above is one of a few I have seen. I still get emotional every time I watch it. It is a good reminder to always look beyond the surface. You never know what people carry with them and how they are feeling about themselves. I find beauty often radiates from the inside out and is what I love and appreciate about so many of the people in my life.
“The beauty of a woman is not in facial mode but the true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives the passion that she shows. The beauty of a woman grows with the passing years.”
My cousin Suzy came for a visit last weekend. Being around her always awakens my spirit and fills my heart with love. We are on a similar path with our love of gardening, deep respect for the earth, learning about nutrition and practicing self care. I appreciate how she incorporates things like massages and facials into her life~something I have always found so indulgent. I have been thinking about why I have thought this. Was it the financial investment or something else? I am still not sure but do know the healing arts are something I am valuing more and more and wish to incorporate into my life.
We did a little craft project and made these cute pom pom flowers. I used to do craft projects all the time. When did this stop? I think for the past few years I have been so focused on my artwork and getting both my shop and our new show up and running that I haven’t allowed room for things like this in my life.
It was so nice to catch up with my cousin in a meaningful way. I like crafts for this reason. I don’t have to think as much as I do with painting. I can be present in a different way and listen while I work. We lounged in cozy clothes by the fire, caught up on our lives over tea and cookies all within an afternoon. We were both excited to have something colorful for spring to brighten up our homes. I think these would be so sweet on a package or would be really cute in a little vase for a gift.
For a while now I have been thinking about hosting a “Crafts & Conversations” night at my studio once a month or so. I am envisioning a nice group of people who enjoy great conversations, making something special and love the gratifying feeling of creating something with their hands. People could even bring a little vino or if it was you a brew if they liked.
I know people could easily go on Pinterest and find cool craft ideas but how may people are like me, pinning them but not making the time for creating them? I could do all the leg work, have everything there waiting for them in a welcoming space. Still mulling over the logistics of it all and I guess sometimes you just have to try things out and see how they work. I know you would tell me to not let my perfectionism get in the way so I will try to just jump in and put it out there. The picture above is another little spring craft project I have started. I will share it with you when I finish it. Stay warm my dear. They are predicting more SNOW here!
p.s. I have some ideas brewing in the studio as well. Will share soon!
