This month I have an opportunity to teach some wonderful new classes. One is called, Fearless Sketch Journaling which will take place at the Mystic Arts Center on Thursdays starting January 14th and the other is an Altered Book class which takes place at my cozy studio in Westerly, RI on Wednesdays starting January 20th.  Both classes were designed to give students the opportunity to play and express themselves in their own unique way. My hope is to give you new tools, ideas and permission to get messy, make mistakes and learn about yourself. This is how we grow as artists, writers, thinkers and human beings.  More information about these classes and other upcoming classes can be found on my website HERE

Also, the Mystic Arts Center is offering a FREE demonstration on Liquitex products this coming Thursday, Jan. 14th 5:30 – 7:00 pm. Liquitex invented water-based acrylics and has been the innovator in all things acrylic ever since. They will be demonstrating how to use the paint more effectively, fluently, and expressively. Everyone who goes will be given FREE samples~how COOL is that? Tina will be flying in from Charleston, SC the same day, so you might even see us both there! Hope you are all having a wonderful day! Laura

  1. now that is very tempting — my daughter flies into providence for 6:30 — wonder if i could squeeze in mystic? i’m liking the sound of that fearless sketch journaling too…

  2. Hi Laura,
This class looks great on Thursday at the Mystic Center. I am up for anything on my visit. Also your Fearless Sketch Journal Class looks like a wonderful opportunity for someone to start a daily writing/sketching practice. One of my new year’s resolutions is to do just this. I will share mine when I come on Thursday. I bought a pack of three journals (paper cover with a pocket in the back) from my local art store for $12.00 by WritersBlok (I love them!) Also, I have heard of another company called Field Notes that has great small journals of the same nature as WritersBlok. They are cheap and portable.

I will also be bringing our altered book in my luggage with my new page added so you can show your students a lively example of an altered/created book.

  3. Thanks Michelle! It would be fun to see you and meet you in person!

Tina, I can’t wait to see your journals. It is too bad we don’t have a great art store here like the AMAZING one you took me to in Charleston when I was there (what was it called?). I too have been keeping up with my writing practice as well. We will have do our writing/and or sketching together over coffee when you get here THURSDAY!!!~yippee!
