The perfect kick off to 2014!

2014 welcome

Dear Tina,

I had a lazy afternoon after sadly wishing safe travel to my sister Tina, brother-in-law Chris and Michelle & Jesse who came down from NH to ring in the New Year with us! There is something I find magical about New Year’s Eve. Not only is it a night of possibility and appreciating the gifts of the past year, it is a night to get dressed up extra special and spend time with friends. (Michelle & I even treated ourselves to a mani/pedi and couldn’t stop staring at our nails~I can’t tell you the last time I had one!) We all splurged and had the most succulent meal at our favorite restaurant. (Olio if you hadn’t guessed~everything was ridiculously fabulous! They even treated everyone to cotton candy after dinner~how fun is that?!?!?).  We all came back to our house after to welcome the New Year. I stayed up WAY too late (or early as we didn’t go to bed until 3:30 am!). I felt a little less productive than I thought I would be today~actually who am I kidding? New Year’s day always seems to be this way. In my laziness I watched The Dead Poets Society which I hadn’t seen in  SO long. I love it when a movie that has moved you comes on TV when you weren’t expecting it. Do you remember that movie? Watching it today this quote struck a chord with me. I highlighted the parts I loved best and thought you would too. You could easily insert “Art” for “poetry “couldn’t you?

John Keating: We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless… of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer. That you are here – that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play *goes on* and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be?

We had some lovely champagne with a splash of pom juice and fresh pomegranates~ SO pretty! I think you would have preferred a craft beer~ha! I did try a brown ale I think you would like though. Are you shocked?

Here is to a great new year my friend!

I can’t wait to start taking ACTION on our BIG plans!

WELCOME 2014!!!
