Forts

Dear Laura,

This is a quick post in between cooking and entertaining guests. I liked your question about what delighted me as a child.  One big thing was making forts with my brothers (in the dead of winter this was a pretty good alternative to sitting in time-out for driving our parents crazy).  We would create elaborate forts with all the blankets and pillows in the house.  There would be multiple rooms, hallways, and sometimes even second floors with pieces of plywood on chairs (or tunnels made to the top of the bed).  I still have the maps I created about these forts.  The photos below are of a book I made in 1983!

My two boys also delight in making forts.  They have made some Christmas forts the past few days that I photographed here.  They have been sleeping on the floor with the lights around them.  It doesn’t look like much to me, but in their imaginations it is a whole world.

I really enjoy how imagination is encouraged this time of year.  No other time of year is like this (although I wish it were all the time).

My next post I will be posting some pictures about a new collage series I have started about the suburban life.  More on that later.

For now, Merry Christmas!

Love, Tina
