Tina’s Earth :: Sky Project

Dear Laura,

I have started a new daily project.  Well…let me be honest.  I started this project a year ago, did a few, and then gave up.  Last time, I was using my point-and-shoot camera and formatting in Photoshop.  That was a big pain.  I am back at it.  This time it is easier because I am simply using my phone and an app called Pic Stitch.  Easy.

The project idea is simply to take a photo of the sky and earth on any given day, post to Flickr with the date, and that is it!  Sometimes I do this daily, skip a day, or create two in one day.  I am pretty loose with my schedule so that I don’t set myself up for failure with too many parameters.

I am doing this as part of my research.  I am curious about how the sky, with it’s various light, and earth, with it’s various textures, enter into my subconscious every day, inform my decisions, set the mood, inspire new ideas, etc.  I have never really investigated how light and texture affect me.

I have recently realized that ALL of my artwork I have ever created has to do with my relationship to and with nature.  Even when I was making sculpture about contemporary education or motherhood…it all comes back to this relationship I have with the natural world.  I am truly at “home” when I am outside hiking, kayaking, or camping.  This is worthy of further research.

I am not sure yet what I will discover with this photo project. I know I will never print it and exhibit it.  It is simply for thinking through an idea and sharing it with you all if you are interested.

I am very grateful that I have the tool of the camera phone.  Sometimes you just need the right thing to see an idea realized.

I am only posting these to Flickr, so if you are interested, please connect with me HERE.  I will follow you too!

Take care,

  1. Tina,
    I LOVE this idea! It is wonderful to hear you share your creative process here. It is interesting to think about how all of those things may affect our subconcious mind. I know color and light are definite influences in my work or even how I feel when I enter a space. I crave warm colors, soft textures & organic shapes and lines for sure. I will be curious to see how this all unfolds. Thanks for sharing!
