Hello Sweet T~
“All of our dreams can come true.” ~Walt Disney
Walt Disney’s belief in dreams coming true is repeated in the “shingles” of the roof in this whimsical new painting I just finished. It is one of my first commissioned pieces which I am super excited about. The painting was inspired by a recently purchased painting that was on view last month at the Artists Cooperative Gallery in Westerly.
The original painting had one of my favorite John O’Donohue quotes, “Where you are understood, you are at home.” (Do you remember the great interview Krista Tippett did with him?) I had fun painting and created many layers of imagery below the surface of the painting. Like many of my paintings, this one started off as a meditative painting where I allowed my thoughts to wander as I painted, mindful of the “conversation” I was having with the piece. It turned into a fanciful piece reflecting how “at home” I now feel in CT. I am blessed with wonderful friends, my husband and new acquaintances. It was not long ago that I was homesick for NH, as I am sure you can remember. Is am so grateful for giving CT a chance and for being open to the unexpectedness of what comes when you are open to new experiences. I am grateful for the people who have come into my life, giving me new inspiration, perspective, kindness & love.
This new painting is for a little girl named Madison. While I was creating it I was mindful of my own niece Julia in NH. She is eight years old and very much a curious, creative, vibrant “little girl.” I tried to imagine what excited her and was reminded of my own childhood and the things that delighted me as a child. Tina, what kind of things enchanted you as a child? What do you see in your own children?
I would love to hear what others think as well. Sharing our delights is a magical way to form a community and be present to the many gifts that exist in our lives on a daily basis.
Cheery smiles & love, Laura
