Dear Tina & friends~
This year I have been getting out and seeing more ART. I recently went on a fabulous adventure with my friend Judy to Newport, RI. I have only been there a few times and Judy took me to some places I had never been to. One of them was The Chanler. It is the most beautiful hotel overlooking the ocean. We sat outside with our crisp chardonnays engrossed in conversation, completely in awe of the impeccable landscaping, view and beauty of the day. It will definitely be a spot I go back to for sure! After lunch we took a drive up the coast and then set out for a little shopping and gallery hopping.
When came upon EGG & DART I was immediately seduced by the HOT PINK bike outside and couldn’t wait to go in.
I was enamored with the art on the walls by Chris Whyllie. He was there with his partner, Kristen Coates and they were getting ready for their grand re-opening celebration that was to take place that evening. I loved all the special details and styling of this special place, especially the fresh cut flowers hung by twine in mason jars. I may have to bookmark this idea for a summer party I am planning.
Chris’s work was so unique. He uses found objects with rich patinas as part of his work and I am sure there are many interesting stories tied to each one of them and were beautiful on their own, yet Chris’s imagery transformed them. It made me wonder what it would be like to paint on such a surface.
Talking with Chris & Kristen I learned you can score some great vintage items at New England Demolition & Salvage & Circa (for clothes). I may need a road trip with my girl Sue! I also learned how they restored a house boat which they now rent for cocktail parties and use as a bed and breakfast called, The Belafonte. I would definitely enjoy a sunset cruise on this boat! You can see more pictures of it HERE. Judy and I finished our adventure shopping and visiting some other galleries. It was a PERFECT day and I can’t wait for my next one.
Sending you all a day filled with whatever makes you most happy…love, Laura
